Our mission is eradicate education inequality in developing countries

Standardised textbooks make up the core instructional foundation universally utilised by students and teachers in developing countries,  from affluent districts to underserved communities. Yet quality supplementary materials that enhance classroom teaching often remain siloed away from poorer areas. This exacerbates existing opportunity gaps. By building multimedia engagement tools directly into the textbook itself, Livebook promotes more equitable access to enriched educational content. Rather than requiring entirely separate customised materials, LiveBook leverages existing entrenched distribution and familiarity of core textbook. Both students and educators can benefit from instructional content and a host of digital services without barriers or need for external resources. This amplification maintains existing ubiquity while upgrading the learning experience.

Importantly, enriching textbooks proves especially valuable for the numerous under-trained but dedicated teachers in developing regions. Facing resource limitations, most follow textbooks closely without supplemental materials to clarify concepts. Livebook embeds planning tools, multimedia and community support directly into this core content they use daily. Lessons become more intuitively engaging for educators themselves working diligently under constraints. As comprehension and mastery improve for teachers, their aptitude for instructing students grows in kind. Livebook strengthens textbooks to uplift foundational teacher-student understanding alike.

By elevating universally available materials to enrich engagement, Livebook reduces systemic educational gaps stemming from inequitable access to quality learning technologies. We meet students and teachers where they are, empowering advancement through what they already utilise daily. Educational inequality stems not from the foundational content itself, but unequal access to pedagogical enrichment surrounding it. Livebook fixes that disparity.

The story behind how LiveBook was founded

LiveBook was founded with a simple goal in mind; an environmentally friendly solution to the predatory supplement books industry in the Middle East. So we designed a peer-to-peer Augmented Reality (AR) platform based on standard school textbooks. Instead of buying expensive supplements students could simply point their cameras at any page and see what files were added by other students and teachers and add files of their own, in effect turning each page of their textbooks into a Wikipedia of related material.

This decision to create a tool centred around national text books. was influenced by the fact that, in nearly all low- and middle-income countries, curriculums are centralised, mandating the use of identical textbooks by all students. This gives textbooks a significant importance.
In less than two years, LiveBook garnered over a million users in Iran and Afghanistan through word-of-mouth, achieving higher penetration in smaller, second-tier cities deemed more disadvantaged in terms of educational resources and infrastructure.
